Both Flutter and React Native let teams ship a single codebase to iOS and Android, but the two frameworks make very different trade-offs. Choosing between them depends less on which is "better" and more on your team, your timeline, and your product.
Performance
Flutter compiles to native ARM code and renders its own widgets directly, which tends to produce very consistent frame rates for animation-heavy interfaces. React Native, especially with the newer architecture, has closed much of this gap and performs well for the vast majority of business applications.
Developer Experience
- Flutter: Dart is easy to pick up, hot reload is fast, and the widget model is consistent across platforms
- React Native: JavaScript/TypeScript means your web team can contribute immediately, and you can share logic with a React web app
- Both frameworks have mature tooling for debugging, testing, and CI/CD integration
Ecosystem and Hiring
React Native benefits from the sheer size of the JavaScript ecosystem and the ease of finding engineers who already know React. Flutter has a smaller but rapidly growing community, and Dart-specific talent can be harder to find in some markets, though the framework itself is quick to learn for any experienced developer.
Our Recommendation
If your team already has strong React or web expertise, or you need to share significant business logic with an existing web app, React Native is usually the pragmatic choice. If you are starting fresh, need pixel-perfect custom UI, or want a single rendering engine with minimal platform-specific quirks, Flutter is an excellent fit.
